Wedding Photography :: Jasmine Star Style

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Over the past few years I have been so fortunate to have opportunities to learn from some of the best lifestyle and portrait photographers like Cheryl Muhr, Brianna Graham, Barb Uil of Jinky Art, Joe McNally, and  Kevin Kubota (which, for the record, was amazing!  He is informative, passionate, and entertaining!)  So some time last fall I began the painful process of trying to decide what workshop I wanted to take next.  It may sound like an easy decision to make, but workshops are expensive and 9 times out of 10 they involve travel.  In my blog-hopping trying to narrow down my picks, I got side tracked (as I often do!) by Jasmine Star’s blog.  She’s always so funny and informative that I just get sucked right in.  On this day I realized that if I took just one more workshop this year, hers would be the one.  I had no idea when it would be and I knew she was in HIGH demand, so I signed up for her newsletter and crossed fingers.  The very next day (I kid you not!) I got an email announcing a workshop in the OC… are you serious?  I grabbed the phone, made a quick call to my husband and upon hanging up, I registered.  I patiently waited to hear back – half expecting that taking a mere 30 minutes to register was 30 minutes too long.   Then I got the email saying I was in!  Ecstatic doesn’t even begin to express my state of mind.  I was beyond thrilled.  Her workshop sells out quickly.  I know a couple of people who tried just a few hours after seeing the announcement and didn’t make it.  So I was feeling very much like this was meant to be!

The workshop did not disappoint.  The brilliant Jasmine Star was on fire!  She is so vivacious and kind – it was worth every penny to hang out with her for a day.  Here are some pictures from the workshop – I’m not a heavy shooter at workshops because I learn best by watching, but I did find some moments I felt that I needed to get.  This couple is just gorgeous.  Should that be in caps?  GORGEOUS!  Yes, that’s better.   So here’s a little wedding eye candy for you!

Have a fabulous weekend!

The details:  Bride’s amazing makeup and hair was done by Vivian Tran of All Made Up, and Lauryl Lane did the extra fancy fall bouquet.  Someone had asked Jasmine about the bride’s headband and I believe it’s from ETSY.  They used a few of them to layer and make the feathers more substantial.  Very creative and very beautiful!

Chris & Jenny :: Bay Area Wedding Photographer

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

You may remember this beautiful couple from their San Francisco engagement session – seriously, how could you forget them?  I have to say that Chris and Jenny are two of the kindest people I’ve had the pleasure of photographing.  Doing their engagement session was a thrill, but their wedding was amazing.  So serene and elegant.  I also had the luck of getting Kathi Cook to come down from Napa and second shoot with me – she made the whole experience even more lovely (not to mention entertaining!)  Cafe Primavera catered the affair and it was just jaw dropping… I secretly want Joanna Biondi to open a restaurant in the East Bay.  I would live there.

I could easily prattle on about this wedding and tell you all about the pictures and what was happening in each one, but I’d rather save the space and just show a ton of pictures.  And I mean a ton.  If it loads slowly, I apologize… wait patiently, it’ll be worth it.

Have a glorious rest of the week!

There’s Something About Lise :: Destination Wedding Photography

Friday, August 14th, 2009

Several months ago my favoritest auntie called to ask if I would come out to Minnesota to shoot a wedding. My cousin, Lise, was getting married and the wedding was to take place at 10 Mile lake. Well as you can imagine I jumped at the chance to shoot this wedding. Not only because it was a wedding on a lake and the picture possibilities are endless, but also because I love that family! My uncle reminds me of my dad with his dry wit and constant harassment. My auntie is always there for me and truly represents home. And my cousins are quite the source of entertainment.

For those of you who follow me on twitter, this is the wedding where the forecast was for hail and strong winds. You read that correctly. Hail and strong winds. Why not throw in a forest fire and call it a day? Seriously, we thought we’d have to go to plan B and everyone was ready to set it all up in the garage. Yes, the wedding would move to the garage. Not at all what a photographer wants to shoot in, but more importantly, not at all where a bride wants to get married. In the end we lucked out. It was overcast and rained a little, but it wasn’t hail, so we were thrilled! I must admit I did have a lot of grand plans going into this shoot, and the wet grounds and drizzly weather weren’t in them. So I shot mostly on the dock, but if you grew up spending your summers on a lake, you know that the docks are what lake living is all about. And for Lise, it was especially true.

I hope everyone is having a fabulous summer! Can you believe it’s almost over?

p.s. I think I’m going to include a Hazard Pay clause in my contract. Mosquitoes should definitely qualify.
